Beerjacket is the musical title of Scottish alternative singer/songwriter, Peter Kelly. Having begun life as a lo-fi solo home-recording project, Beerjacket quickly grew with the popularity of numerous DIY albums leading to shows with The National, St Vincent, Joan As Police Woman, Squeeze and Frightened Rabbit amongst many others. Beerjacket has drawn significant praise and attention in many publications, including The Herald, The Skinny and Fortitude Magazine, as well as receiving radio play from BBC Radio 6 Music and KEXP.

In 2018, Beerjacket received critical acclaim with the release of Silver Cords, a unique album and book of songs and accompanying short stories. In addition to tour dates with Kristin Hersh and a BBC Quay Sessions TV performance, Silver Cords was supported by appearances at Aye Write and Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Younger is the new single and first track to be released from self-produced new album, Health Hour, written and recorded in its entirety at home during lockdown from March to July. Beginning with only the pulse of a foot-stomp, picked bass notes on acoustic guitar and swirls of sparkling mellotron, Younger develops into an anthemic chorus elevated by percussive mandolin and Johnny Marr-esque electric guitar. As an introduction to the fresh, spontaneous sound of the new album, Younger is perfect. “I starting writing and recording on one of the last days of March, redid everything as I went along, then mixed and mastered in July. I had initially intended to try to write a few songs for an EP but fortunately this album wrote itself instead.”

“No matter how much music you listen to, you rarely stumble across a musical approach that does not wear its influences on its sleeve. These songs speak in their own language.” Kristin Hersh, Throwing Muses

Once when we were older
We could let our bodies waste
Torn knee and burning shoulder
Every tooth in our heads replaced

Now we’re younger, we have changed
Now we’re younger, we have changed
The same in all but name.

Twice when we were slower
Time paused to let us past
Born so fast it made us sober
Centuries blown in molten glass

Now we’re younger, we have changed
Now we’re younger, we have changed
The same in all but name.

Stop running
Stop running
The clock can’t catch us
Start breathing
Start breathing
My watch runs slow
So run slow.
